College a New Journey into Adulthood
By Savannah Williams
1 hour and 15 minutes.
A short movie? Half of a musical?
To me it's how long it takes to drive home from college.
Compared to my friends that went out of state for college I feel pretty lucky to live so close to my college.
But this almost wasn't my story. High Point University was the only in state school I applied to.
10 schools and only one in the place I have lived my whole life.
I was ready for a change but then I fell in love!
With the campus, the food, and especially the people. I felt at home.
I knew I couldn't go anywhere except for HPU.
Who knew it would still be so hard to leave?
As an only child I am super close to my parents. Especially my mom. I also spent the majority of my childhood with my extended family. Whether it was spending a week together at Christmas or going to Mississippi or DC in the summer time we were together. Hanging out with my cousins was always the highlight of my time.

Obviously missing my family is hard but there are so many new opportunities in college. Meeting new people and putting myself out there has been so fun. Also going to new places I would have never been able to experience in my home town.
